In the mountains of Apía, Risaralda, where the aroma of coffee fills the air and the green slopes tell stories of tradition, lies Finca Los Ángeles. This land has been home to the Londoño family for generations, and in 2019, Juan Camilo Londoño, a passionate and visionary young man, took on the challenge of continuing the family legacy.
When he took over the management of the farm, Juan Camilo decided to blend traditional practices with innovative techniques to elevate the quality of the coffee produced. He chose to cultivate the Castillo variety at an altitude of 1,820 meters above sea level, an ideal condition that imparts unique characteristics to the bean. With 16,000 trees in production, he implemented homogeneous harvesting, ensuring that only the fruits at their peak ripeness were picked. Camilo also implements the Honey processing method, in which the mucilage (that sticky and sweet layer surrounding the coffee seed)is left on the bean during the drying process. This technique directly influences the flavor profile, resulting in sweeter, fruitier cups with a fuller body, followed by both solar and mechanical drying. These techniques highlighted distinctive flavor profiles in his coffee.
Juan Camilo’s dedication did not go unnoticed. In 2021, his coffee was selected as one of the top ten in the department to represent Risaralda at the Specialty Coffee Expo, a recognition of his effort and commitment to excellence.
Juan Camilo Londoño has proven that, with a love for the land and a clear vision, it is possible to honor tradition while building a promising future for Colombian coffee farming.
